With the purpose of continuing to contribute to the development of its communities through education, Drummond Ltd. delivered the project for the total remodeling and equipping of the Elvia Vizcaino de Todaro Departmental Educational Institution, Las Palmeras, in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Aracataca, in Magdalena.

The project, which benefits more than 300 students, included the complete refurbishment of nine classrooms, a computer room, a teachers’ room, two toilets and general physical infrastructure works.

“At Drummond we continue to strengthen the institutional and community capability of the municipalities in the area of influence. For us, education is an essential tool for the progress and development of communities. That is why, on this occasion, we are working in coordination with the Mayor’s Office of Aracataca to guarantee a safe and adequate educational infrastructure that contributes to the well-being of students and teachers,” said Mayra Poveda, senior supervisor of community relations and government in Magdalena.

The project included complete civil works, among which was the demolition of old structures, construction of foundations, columns and walls, plastering, sanitary, hydraulic and electrical installations, roof assembly, metal carpentry, application of finishes and painting.

“I am very happy and grateful to Drummond for this wonderful work they helped build in the municipality of Aracataca. It is a great support to education in this municipality,” said Leiter Salgado Pacheco, mayor of Aracataca.

Drummond also delivered the furniture and equipment, consisting of 258 desks, 10 boards and 6 air conditioners. The Mayor’s Office of Aracataca, for its part, provided skilled labor, consolidating a joint work model that promotes co-responsibility and the strengthening of the social fabric.

“Thank you very much to Drummond because our educational community and the community of Aracataca in general is very happy, happy to have a completely new and remodeled building, with all the equipment,” said Julio Peña Annichiarico, rector of the Elvia Vizcaino de Todaro School of Education, Las Palmeras.

With this project, the community now has safe, modern and functional spaces that favor learning and integral education of children and young people.

“It is very important that private entities join public ones so that things can be more efficient. For the private companies it is essential to finish the works to the satisfaction of all parents and students,” commented Yasmín Daza Martínez, spokesperson for the parents.

This initiative contributes to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education, and reflects Drummond’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development, education and the well-being of the communities in its area of influence.
