Recently, Drummond supported the women’s volleyball team from Magdalena, by donating the team uniforms for the fifty-sixth National Women’s Championship to be held in the city of Medellin. The team will represent the state and their performance in Medellin will determine whether or not they qualify for the national tournament in 2019 in the city of Cartagena.

The President of the Volleyball league of Magdalena, Luis del Risco, highlighted how important private enterprise contributions and involvement are to the Department’s activities in favor of sports and culture in the community.

The team, currently made up of young women from ages 14 to 22, the age group for their category in this league, has been training for three months now. Quite a few of them began playing volleyball when they were very young, seeing it as a hobby or an extra-curricular activity, as is the case with Isabella De la Rosa, who at 14 years of age is the youngest of the athletes. Her father Leopoldo De la Rosa says, “What started out as a game for Isabella turned into a passion. Today she is being courted by different trainers and by the Volleyball League of Magdalena. This is important because these girls have an impact on other young people involved in drugs or just doing nothing. That’s why we need to support these causes. We trust in Drummond to support athletic talent because we know they are committed to the community.”

Drummond’s contribution helped the team meet the requirements for participating in the championship, because one of the requirements was to have two sets of uniforms available. The team’s trainer, Sergio Samper said, “Before I found out about Drummond’s social responsibility program, the girls had made a lot of sacrifices to attend the competition, because they didn’t have the resources necessary. With Drummond’s help donating the game uniforms and the help of the Departmental Sports Institute donating the dress uniform, we can now be a part of the tournament.”

In order to do their best, the young women are dedicated to rigorous training. Loraine Barros, a player on the team, says they are happy to represent the Department, even though, since they are playing in group A, they will initially have to face off with Valle, Bolivar, Cesar and Bogota, which will be a big challenge for them.
