Twenty years ago, Drummond committed to education as a way to open new opportunities for young people in its areas of influence. Since then, its university Scholarship Program has supported hundreds of students on their path to higher
education. This year, in addition to celebrating this milestone, it is opening applications to select the recipients for the 2027 cohort.
Since its inception in 2006, the Drummond Scholarships have benefited 385 young
people; 125 are now professionals, 84 are currently pursuing their degrees, and 10 have
participated in national and international academic exchanges. Furthermore, some of the
program’s graduates are now part of the company’s team, contributing their knowledge
and experience to the development of the region.
“Celebrating twenty years with this program represents the satisfaction of having
accompanied the growth of many young people who found in education an opportunity
to transform their future. Each scholarship recipient represents a story of effort, discipline,
and hope for their family and community,” said Mayra Poveda Contreras, Senior
Supervisor of Community and Government Relations for Magdalena and Coordinator of
the Scholarship Programs.
An Opportunity to Build a Life Project
The process began with outreach sessions at educational institutions in the company’s
areas of influence. Subsequently, the invited schools must officially present their
candidates and submit the required information by August 31, 2026. From this date, the
evaluation and verification of the established criteria will take place.
The call for applications is aimed at students who excel academically and who, due to
their socioeconomic circumstances, require this support to access higher education. The
young people selected throughout the process will receive a scholarship that covers the
entire cost of their degree in their chosen academic program. In addition, they will receive
a monthly stipend and comprehensive psychosocial support throughout their academic
training.
To enter the evaluation process, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be formally nominated by the principal as one of the two top-performing high
school graduates of the educational institution. - Be a native of or have continuously completed high school in one of the municipalities within Drummond’s area of influence.
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average equal to or higher than 50% of the
excellence scale, from 6th grade through the first semester of 11th grade. - Belong to groups A, B, or C of the municipal Sisbén (social welfare system), as
certified by an official document. - Obtain a minimum overall score of 280 points on the Saber 11 (ICFES)
standardized test.
20 years supporting dreams
Beyond facilitating access to university education, the Scholarship Program aims to
support young people during a crucial stage in building their life plans.
“Supporting these young people in their transition to university life means witnessing
firsthand how social barriers are broken, their worldview broadens, and their desire to
succeed grows,” stated Merielem Correa Perea, Community and Government Relations
Assistant and head of the Program’s psychosocial component.
With this new call for applications, Drummond commemorates 20 years of a program that
has contributed to strengthening local talent, creating educational opportunities, and
helping young people in Cesar and Magdalena achieve their dreams of becoming
professionals.
