In a development that marks cultural and educational progress in the municipality, Drummond Ltd., in partnership with the municipal administration of Algarrobo, officially delivered the renovated Benito Rebollo Public Library, a fundamental space to strengthen knowledge, reading and community participation.

This intervention included fixing the whole physical infrastructure. Total recovery of the central building was carried out with new shelving, furniture and fixtures. Bathrooms were renovated and modernized for comfort and accessibility. A new air-conditioned auditorium was also built, designed as a multifunctional space for cultural events, academic activities, workshops, cinema clubs and community meetings.

“This library is a positive social impact for the community, and its use is focused on education and culture. It was delivered by Drummond, which contributed the materials, and the municipal administration that contributed the labor,” said Betsy Fontalvo del Portillo, representative of the Planning Secretariat of Algarrobo.

One of the most notable developments with this refurbishment is the library ́s increased capacity. Previously, the project housed up to 60 people simultaneously. Today, with the improvements made, the Benito Rebollo Library has the capacity to receive approximately 200 people, which will enable it to respond more efficiently to the growing demand for community- oriented services.

“It has more comfort, more space, they have air conditioning and before we did not have this service. Capacity was very low,” said Juan Vargas Arias, mayor of the municipality.

As Alvaro Daza, senior community relations supervisor at Drummond Ltd., put it: “The most important thing is that there was a document from the Ministry of Culture that records that this is one of the most visited libraries, demonstrating a high cultural level.” Such a distinction highlights the dynamism of the library’s events, the citizen appropriation of the space and the role it plays in promoting reading and training diverse audiences.

The renovated library is also positioned as one of the key points of the Ette Ennaka Ecotourism Route of Algarrobo, a project that articulates natural, historical and cultural heritage in a route designed to boost sustainable tourism in the region.

For the municipality, this project represents a direct commitment to human development, culture as a fundamental right, and the construction of citizenship. “This library is not only for children, but also for young people, teenagers and adults. When they used the services before in the computer room, the conditions were very precarious, the shelves were poor,” said Annerys Rodríguez Alfaro, librarian in charge.

Drummond Ltd., for its part, reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility through quality education and to strengthening environments that generate positive and sustainable impact in communities. This initiative has been essential to the realization of modern, functional and accessible infrastructure for all.
