Drummond Ltd. reports that during blasting operations conducted on September 15, no
exceedances of the vibration reference criterion were recorded at any of the company’s
monitoring stations.
In response to concerns regarding an event perceived around midday on September 15
in areas such as La Loma, Potrerillo, and El Paso (Cesar), Drummond Ltd. verified data
from its real-time vibration monitoring network, which tracks levels generated by blasting
activities at its mining projects.
The recorded data show that none of the monitoring stations registered values exceeding
0.9 millimeters per second (mm/s) during that day’s blasting—a level well below the 3.0
mm/s reference criterion established by the DIN 4150-3 standard for sensitive structures.
These stations are part of a network operated by a laboratory duly accredited by IDEAM
and are strategically located around operational areas to objectively monitor vibrations
associated with blasting activities.
Specifically, the closest blasting operations conducted on September 15—relative to the
town of La Loma—took place at 12:27 p.m. in the Pit 2 operational area of the El Descanso
Norte mining project, located approximately 13.2 kilometers from the town.
Meanwhile, the blast at the La Loma mining project occurred at 12:30 p.m.,
approximately 13.8 kilometers from the nearest part of La Loma.
This 13-kilometer distance is roughly four times the length of the town of La Loma from
end to end, as measured along its main road. It is worth noting that, according to network
measurements, both sound and vibration were imperceptible at a distance of 4 km from
the blasting area. The monitoring stations closest to the areas where these activities took
place were located approximately 3.6 kilometers away for the El Descanso Norte project
and 2.9 kilometers away for the La Loma project.
