Reaffirming its commitment to the sustainability of the region, Drummond Ltd. carried out another stocking operation of bocachico and dorada fish. By the end of May, it had released more than 500,000 fingerlings, prioritizing restocking in areas such as the Mata de Palma Marsh, the Paraluz, El Platanal, and Garrapatas streams, the El Zorro stream, and the Paujil Reservoir.
The operation was conducted with the participation of the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority (AUNAP), the Municipality of El Paso, through its Mining Secretariat, the ASOPESPO fishing association, and representatives of the Community Action Board of the La Guajirita village in Becerril.
“Following the restocking, and to ensure a 90% survival rate for the species, we conduct semi-annual fisheries monitoring, evaluating gonadal development and size control. This first release of fingerlings, which generates a positive environmental impact for our communities, will continue with a second phase scheduled between August and September of this year,” explained Juan Guillermo Díaz Nieto, environmental projects engineer at Drummond Ltd.
It is worth noting that this first fingerling stocking event in 2026 complements previous efforts by Drummond, where community training has also become an important element in guaranteeing responsible and sustainable fishing practices.
With these actions, the company and its partners are focusing their efforts on strengthening the restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity in the territory of Cesar and its water sources adjacent to mining operations.
