In a joint effort to transform school environments, help alleviate overcrowding, and ensure a quality education, Drummond Ltd. and the Algarrobo Mayor’s Office inaugurated four classrooms at the Rafael Núñez Departmental Educational Institution (I.E.D.).

“This is the result of coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors. To all the young people and children in the municipality of Algarrobo, thank you for joining us in this project. We invite you to enjoy this important space and to continue building on your educational knowledge in these classrooms,” said Mayra Poveda Contreras, senior supervisor of communities and government relations for Drummond Ltd. in Magdalena.

The classrooms, which benefit 1,500 students, were built from the ground up; each measures 67.88 square meters and equipped with ceilings, thermal and acoustic insulation, electrical systems, lighting fixtures, and windows with protective screens. Additionally, the use of elements and materials designed to withstand the local climate ensures a structurally sound, safe, and functional building.

“Today is a day of happiness, joy, and satisfaction for doing things that benefit the municipality. I truly feel happy for each and every one of you here today. May God grant us the wisdom to continue moving forward, growing as a municipality, as a community, and as people,” said Algarrobo Mayor Juan Pablo Vargas Arias regarding the completed project.

In addition to the infrastructure built in accordance with the technical guidelines and standards established by the Ministry of Education, each classroom was equipped with ergonomic desks, fans, whiteboards, chairs, and desks for teachers’ use. Drummond provided all the materials and furniture, while the municipality arranged for local skilled labor.

“I feel very happy because I can sense all the gratitude from the students; today, with joy and excitement, we are enjoying these new classrooms. Thank you to Drummond and the mayor for always supporting education,” said Laura Sofía Sánchez Mendinueta, a student at the Rafael Núñez School.

Drummond will continue to work in a coordinated manner to strengthen dignified and safe environments that, as part of its social responsibility, contribute to comprehensive development, regional equity, and quality education.
