As part of its social commitment to strengthening quality education, Drummond Ltd. recently socialized its higher education scholarship program in different public educational institutions in the department of Cesar.

This initiative, one of the company’s most significant commitments to social responsibility, aims to provide opportunities for low-income young people with academic excellence to access university studies and build a better future.

Life transformation through education

The impact of the program goes beyond academics. Each scholarship represents the possibility of opening new opportunities, transforming the lives of students and their families. This transformation not only drives individual growth, but also the development of entire communities.

“The program is fundamental for our students to fulfill their dreams; it directly impacts their life projects and represents a great welfare for our community. We are very grateful to Drummond for providing this opportunity to potential scholarship recipients, allowing them, year after year, to apply and realize their dream of continuing their studies,” said Alfonso Ochoa Machuca, rector of the Institución Educativa Nacionalizada El Paso.

Education as a tool for transformation

Over more than two decades, the Drummond Ltd. scholarship program has established itself as a driver of social mobility in the region:

  • 244 scholarships awarded to young people from Cesar and Magdalena.
  • 80 active students in universities in the country, studying from first to tenth semester.
  • 111 professional graduates, who today are examples of discipline and resilience in their communities.
  • 24 young people have been employed at Drummond Ltd., either directly, through employment agencies or through contractors.
  • 8 scholarship recipients with national and international exchanges, broadening their academic and cultural horizons.

The program covers 100% of university tuition and a monthly maintenance allowance adjusted based on the CPI, which allows young people to concentrate on their education without economic limitations.

“This scholarship program has become a platform of opportunities for the youth of Cesar and Magdalena, reaffirming our commitment to the well-being of the communities in the area of influence and to education as a key tool for sustainable progress,” said Merielem Correa Perea, psychologist for the Drummond Ltd. scholarship program.

The Drummond Ltd. scholarship program, which has already benefited 244 young people from Cesar and Magdalena, contributes concretely to closing the gap in real access to higher education. According to figures from the Colombian University Observatory based on the SNIES, by 2024 the higher education coverage rate in Colombia reached 57.53%, compared to 55.38% in 2023, indicating progress, although there is still a large segment of young people who do not have access.

This demonstrates that Drummond’s commitment has become a regional example of how private initiatives can increase educational equity, generate social mobility and contribute to strengthening local development.
