As a demonstration of its environmental commitment, the Pribbenow Mine Forest Nursery of Drummond Ltd. received the certification from the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) as a producer and marketer of plant material for the propagation of forest, fruit and ornamental plants, through Resolution No. 0003957 of April 14, 2025.
“This recognition is a milestone for the company and a benchmark in the sector. Obtaining the certification is the result of several years of constant work and is the result of the commitment, dedication and articulated effort of the biodiversity team, ratifying Drummond’s commitment to sustainable operations, in which the environment plays a fundamental role,” said Fray Orozco Morgan, Senior Biodiversity Supervisor at Drummond Ltd.
The certification granted by the ICA supports the legality and credibility of the nursery, guarantees the phytosanitary quality of the plant material produced and facilitates its traceability. It also opens new opportunities for collaboration with communities and institutions and strengthens the production of trees under good gricultural practices and environmental standards for restoration and conservation programs.
The Pribbenow mine forest nursery occupies an area of 5.6 hectares and has the capacity to produce up to 700,000 seedlings per year, mainly for reforestation programs and donations to employees, public entities and communities in the area of influence of the mining operations.
The seeds planted in the forest nursery are obtained from native trees present in the mining project, and some are supplied by specialized suppliers, which are stored in properly labeled containers in a refrigerated room specially built for this purpose, then continue with specific treatments and a germination process, which has the care and assistance of specialized personnel.
In its processes, the nursery works with a wide diversity of species, including more than 56 native species such as fine heart, dividivi, ebony, macaw, among others, as well as 16 fruit species such as soursop, guava, mango and cashew, and different ornamental varieties.
By obtaining this certification, Drummond Ltd. strengthens its commitment to sustainability and the implementation of best practices in the production of plant material.
