In its commitment to contribute to the country’s sustainable development, with mining that generates key resources for the energy and productive transition, Drummond continues to lead the production and export of Colombian coal. In 2023 29,563,329 tons were produced, representing a growth of 7.1% compared to 2022; and 27,037,622 tons were sold abroad. <\/p>

The coal produced by Drummond in 2023 in the department of Cesar (municipalities of El Paso, La Jagua de Ibirico, Agustin Codazzi, Chiriguana, and Becerril) was exported from its shipping port in the municipality of Cienaga (Magdalena) to 23 destinations around the world, including the Netherlands (15%), Mexico (13.9%), Poland (10.7%), South Korea (7.8%), Turkey (6.9%), Chile (6.0%), Israel (5.7%), (Japan 4.7%), Puerto Rico (4.5 per cent), and others.<\/p>

\u201cThe figures show that international demand for thermal coal is still very significant, as it is a reliable source of energy. Countries continue to complement their energy matrix or basket with different alternativesthat allow them greater independence and sovereignty. This is an opportunity for Colombia to continue to obtain essential resources for the productive transition of its mining regions, as well as for the sustainable development of the entire territory,\u201d said Jose Miguel Linares, Drummond Ltd.\u2019s president.<\/p>

It should be noted that in June 2023, Drummond’s different business units presented their strategy to achieve carbon-neutrality in 2050, with which the company reiterates that coal mining, and its other energy projects, are allies of the productive transition.<\/p>

Country manager for Drummond Energy, Alberto Garcia, mentioned that this strategy includes projects such as \u201cthe direct connection to the national electricity grid, the construction of the first phase of a 54 MW photovoltaic solar park this year, and a second phase of 190 MW that will be executed later on, as well as the implementation of technologies and solutions to reduce and compensate CO2 emissions in all our business units\u2019 operations\u201d.<\/p>

The Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for Drummond Company, Carolina Ria\u00f1o, said: \u201cAt Drummond, we have understood the transition as an integral, gradual, and collaborative process that builds a vision that benefits the country and the regions where we operate.
