Once again, wildlife species delivered by Corpocesar are released in Drummond Ltd.’s conservation areas

La Loma, April 12, 2024

Drummond Ltd. ratifies its commitment to the care and protection of wildlife through the rescue and protection of species. On this occasion, in partnership with the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Cesar, Corpocesar, and the Centro de Atención y Valoración de Fauna y Flora Silvestre (CAVFFS), 33 individuals of 16 species were released in its conservation areas.

Among the animals released were: ocelot, sloth bear, owl, eagle, caiman, turtle, porcupine, armadillo, guacharaca, pigua, carri carri, boas, and a bee hive.

“We received from the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Cesar different species in our biosensor zones established in the mining operations, which have the conditions for their adaptability,” said Jimmy Rojas Pinto, assistant biodiversity supervisor at Drummond Ltd.

The release was carried out in the mining company’s conservation areas, located in its operations in the department of Cesar, including the Paujil Reservoir, which has the appropriate characteristics for these species to be preserved and have the ability to reproduce in their natural habitat.

“By releasing this group of wildlife individuals at Drummond ́s operations area, we have the assurances that they are safe and will continue their reproductive cycle. It should be noted that all of these released species have undergone a clinical and veterinary biological rehabilitation process at CAVFFS,” said Marino Zuleta, veterinarian of Corpocesar.

The released fauna was in a state of abandonment and/or captivity, which is why the environmental authorities intervened to rescue, evaluate, accompany, and promptly release them.

With these actions, Drummond Ltd. complies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15, Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems, as part of its environmental commitment.
