* The partnership between Drummond Ltd. and the Circle of Journalists of Valledupar has produced another scholarship for professionals in communications and journalism.
Margarita Saade, Communications Director at Drummond Ltd., announced the winner of the Communications Scholarship during the ceremony for the 2022 Sirena Vallenata Awards on December 22 in Valledupar. Wendy Peralta took the top spot among the journalists who competed for the scholarship, which has been awarded since the year 2016. Its purpose is to strengthen and empower journalism skills and abilities in Cesar through training, studies, and ongoing education in the area of communications.
The requirements for the scholarship include having earned an undergraduate degree, being active in the profession and employed by a media outlet, having minimum experience of five years, being from Cesar, and having obtained a score of 4.5 or greater in the classification process.
There are two phases in the selection of the winning journalist: 1) evaluation of documents and journalistic pieces, and 2) interviews with the semifinalists. The jury included the director of Fenalco Cesar, Octavio Pico, in representation of civil society, the President of the Circle of Journalists of Valledupar, Maria Marulanda, and the Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Drummond Ltd., Pablo Urrutia.
Upon learning she won the scholarship, at the ceremony for the ‘Sirena Vallenata’ Awards, Wendy Peralta said: “I celebrate this opportunity given to me by the Circle of Journalists of Valledupar and Drummond to continue to get training, strengthen my knowledge of social communications and, of course, to use it all to contribute to the transformation of society. I am greatly honored. It makes me very happy to have won the scholarship, because I know that the competition was fierce in the selection process with my colleagues, who also dream of achieving this prize I have had the privilege of winning today… Thank you so much for this significant investment, for giving us fuel to continue our work, and to continue to get training, so that we can continue to build a better society.”
This sixth annual Communications Scholarship will continue to motivate journalists to continue their training, so they can stay on the cutting edge of innovative knowledge for their profession.
