On February 6, Drummond Ltd.’s Hydrocarbons and Mineral Exploration Division received certification under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard and the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series standard through the specialized firm SGS, for the activities of “Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production.” These certifications are in addition to others already obtained by Puerto Drummond and the company’s mining operation.
Certification was achieved as the result of a process to design and implement an Integrated Management System under the ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 standards, which began in 2014.
The accomplishment came thanks to the commitment and hard work of the personnel in the Hydrocarbons Division. Their diligence and determination allowed them to develop a system for managing and controlling risk and environmental impact in a manner consistent with the HSE Policy and the objectives of the Integrated Management System for all of the Division’s activities.
Other areas of the company also participated in the process. Human Resources, Purchasing, Contracts, and the Health Unit all cooperated with aspects that involve the company as a whole, for example.
After their dedicated work, in Phase 2 of the certification audit, completed in November of 2016, SGS identified “No Major Nonconformities,” as it attested in its recommendation for certification.
At the event, the President of Drummond Ltd. Colombia, Jose Miguel Linares, officially received the certificates. Representing the Hydrocarbons Division, Alfonso Rubiano, Planning and Development Manager, and Monica Escandon, HSE and Communities Director were also present. Ivan Dominguez, the manager of SGS for Colombia, handed over the certificates during the ceremony in the company of his team made up of Leonardo Carvajal, William Gonzalez, Luis Fernando Garcia and Catalina Gonzalez.
Mr. Dominguez emphasized Drummond’s important role in the development of Colombia’s energy mining sector, and the fact that it has been a true pioneer in the development of coalbed methane gas projects. “When very few companies wanted to invest in Colombia, Drummond was willing to make a gamble on the country,” he said.
Drummond’s President, Jose Miguel Linares, then thanked Mr. Dominguez for his words, highlighting the company’s commitment to the sector and to the communities where it operates.
Drummond Ltd. demonstrates the depth of its commitment to responsible and sustainable operations for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons with this additional certification.
