Drummond Ltd. continues to strengthen direct communication with new generations in Colombia. This time students from the Mining Program at the National Institute for Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP) in San Juan del Cesar, Guajira, visited the facilities of the Pribbenow mine to get an up-close look at the mining operation’s responsible procedures in order to reinforce the knowledge they have gained in class.

The visit was guided by a team of experts from Drummond Ltd. Fray Orozco, Supervisor of the Environmental Department, and Alexander Bornachera, Supervisor of the Load Out Laboratory, who explained each of the areas and departments of our Company, and how each process related to industrial safety and environmental management is implemented.

The students also had an opportunity to learn about the activities at the Coal Yard known as Load Out, where the coal is received, selected by quality, and dispatched using the Company’s trains to the facilities of Puerto Drummond located in Cienaga, Magdalena.

“I have been visiting the mine for more than 20 years. I have seen all of its progress, and it seems to me that it’s the best mining company in the country. The company has improved in its attention, environmental plans, talks, and the industrial safety inductions given to workers and people who visit, and that demonstrates that they have advanced in many areas,”expressed Ever Bermudez, a teacher in the INFOTEP mining program.

Drummond Ltd. takes the opinions of its visitors seriously, who on their tours have recognized that the current environmental conditions of our operations are very different than what is reported in the region surrounding the company and the rest of the country.

“It’s the first time I’ve had a chance to enter Drummond’s facilities, and it seems like a very productive experience to me. The entire visit is organized around classes about the operations, and they clarify the image the region has about the company,” expressed Juan Camilo Chaw, second-year student in the Professional Mining Technician program at INFOTEP.

Through these visits, Drummond Ltd. becomes a bridge to help students in Colombia and the region who visit the company gain a vision of themselves in the future as mining sector professionals who are responsible and committed to the environment.
