As part of its commitment to transparency and stakeholder relations, Drummond Ltd. welcomed officials from the National Land Agency (ANT), Cesar, at its mining operations, who learned first-hand about the sustainable mining practices implemented by the company.

During a tour of the Pribbenow mine, located in the department of Cesar, ANT representatives visited several key points of the operation. At the Paujil reservoir, they observed how the company manages water resources and promotes biodiversity conservation.

“The truth is that many people don’t see the perspective from the inside of what mining is. We were amazed at all the benefits it generates, not only by the communities near the mine, but also by the environment in general. We were able to see the growth of fauna, water lagoons and the intention of recovering these lands that have been utilized, so that once mining ends, they can be used again,” said Alvy Luz Ortiz, financial liaison of the National Land Agency, Cesar.

From a viewpoint overlooking a mining area, they were able to learn about the technical processes that guarantee an efficient and safe mining operation. In turn, in the Dispatch area, the logistics of transporting coal and alluvial material were evidenced. At the coal storage yard viewpoint, they learned how coal is stored before it leaves for Drummond ́s Port in Ciénaga, Magdalena, from where it is exported to more than 20 countries around the world.

“At Drummond’s mining operations we were able to learn how they have advanced in the implementation of technologies. Also, the environmental activities that are being developed beyond this environmental compensation. We were able to see how they have been regenerating terrains, areas that have already been exploited and are fully recovered with dense vegetation. This is important for the territory, for the department and for us at the National Land Agency,” said Alexandra Pineda, advisor to the ANT, Cesar’s general directorate.

The visit included a day of socialization, in which leaders from different areas of the company shared information about the processes they carry out.

Drummond will continue to promote opportunities for socialization with its stakeholders, promoting the exchange of experiences and sustainable development in the territory.
