As part of the commemoration of World Water Day, Drummond Ltd. joined the Beachathon organized by the Santa Marta Public Services Company (ESSMAR E.S.P.), with the aim of cleaning and oxygenating Los Cocos beach in Santa Marta. This day brought together students, institutions and various entities from the public and private sectors, reaffirming the collective commitment to the preservation of the environment.
During the activity, the volunteers participated in underwater and terrestrial cleaning work, collection of unusable waste and recyclable material, as well as sorting out the waste that was collected. The day also included the oxygenation of the beach, contributing to the conservation of the marine and coastal ecosystem.
In this way, Drummond also contributed to raising environmental awareness among
citizens: “We are standing at the mouth of the Manzanares River in the sector known as La Playa de Los Cocos, creating synergy in a Beachathon day with ESSMAR, with the purpose of safeguarding the marine and coastal ecosystem in this area,” said Rafael Ortiz, supervisor of the environmental department of Drummond Ltd. In addition, he called for citizen responsibility: “It is important to remind everyone that whenever you come to the beach and generate waste, please collect it and deposit it in the indicated places according to the type of waste you generate.”

Andrés Felipe Maya, deputy manager of operations and other services for ESSMAR E.S.P., highlighted the purpose of the initiative: “We are doing this beautiful work in order to preserve the environment and give back to our surroundings what it gives us on a daily basis in the development of our economic activities.” He also highlighted the importance of the participation of different sectors, including the Colombian National Police, Dadsa, Atesa, Corpamag and other entities with a social purpose.
On the part of the ESSMAR, the collaboration of approximately 500 volunteers and the figure of 1.5 tons of waste collected were confirmed, among which were tires, cigarette butts, plastics, styrofoam, cans, straws, cups, among others.
The Beachathon also had the active participation of young people such as Jack Barraza, a student at the Las Américas Institute, who expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative: “I found it a very interesting day, which I have shared with my colleagues and we have done an act of charity in helping the beach. For me, this type of activity is important because this way we can keep this beach clean, since it is one of the most important in America, called ‘The Pearl of America’ and, at the same time, we can keep marine life safe.”
Drummond Ltd.’s participation in this activity reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection, aligned with its sustainability strategy and the strengthening of partnerships for the development of initiatives that benefit communities and the natural environment.
