Drummond presents a special edition of its corporate magazine, focused on its commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of clean energy. This new issue highlights the progress and emblematic projects that reflect its Carbon Neutrality strategy for the year 2050, a key milestone in Colombia’s mining and energy sector.
In this edition, the magazine details the start-up of the first phase of the Cañahuate Photovoltaic Solar Park developed by Drummond Energy, located in Cesar. This project, with an investment of approximately US$55 million and a generation capacity of 54 MW in alternating current, will cover more than one third of the electricity demand of the company’s mining operations, contributing to reducing its carbon footprint and strengthening the national electricity grid by delivering surplus clean energy. During its construction, priority was given to local employment with more than 500 people from the area of influence, reaffirming Drummond’s commitment to the social and economic development of its areas of influence.
The magazine delves into the pillars of Drummond’s Carbon Neutrality Strategy, which include:
- Reduction of direct and indirect emissions (Scope 1 and 2): Implementation of initiatives such as the use of renewable energies and connection to the National Transmission System (NTS).
- Emission compensation (Scope 1 and 2): Development of reforestation and environmental conservation projects.
- Management of indirect emissions (Scope 3): Long-term innovations in alternative fuels and logistics optimization to reduce emissions in the supply chain.
Since 2021, this strategy has required an investment of more than $100 million, reflecting the company’s commitment to a sustainable, low-emissions future.
Beyond Carbon Neutrality:
This edition also highlights research into alternative fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG), which seek to reduce emissions generated by Drummond’s transportation fleets. In addition, future projects are being explored to further diversify renewable energy sources, strengthening long-term sustainability.
In his editorial, Richard Mullen, CEO of Drummond Company, highlights: “Our commitment to sustainability transcends our operations. We are committed to a multi-energy business model that benefits both the country and the planet, leaving an environmental and social legacy for future generations”.
Drummond continues to build a future in balance with the environment, reaffirming its role as a strategic partner in the sustainable development of Colombia and the world.
