Ciénaga, November 5, 2024
*The project was financed and supported by Drummond Ltd., the technical and logistical organization of the Banasan Foundation and the non-profit organization 2020 Vista, in charge of providing medical care to the beneficiaries.
In a joint effort to improve the quality of life in its area of influence, Drummond Ltd., the Banasan Foundation and the 2020 Vista Inc. organization carried out the “Visual Health Campaign” for three consecutive days in the municipality of Ciénaga, providing access to ophthalmological services to more than 600 people in the region.
The sessions included visual acuity tests, eye pressure checks and ophthalmologic analyses with medical specialists. As another significant contribution of the partnership, prescription eyeglasses were delivered, with options of lenses and cut-out frames to be assembled and delivered to the beneficiaries immediately or for later delivery, depending on their case and formula.
“This project contributes to the quality of life of the populations, developing and strengthening the company’s contribution to achieving the objectives of sustainable development. We want to continue working to generate positive impact for the basic health needs of the populations in our area of influence, in this case visual health,” commented Juan Pablo Arteaga de Brigard, vice president of social responsibility and resettlement for Drummond Ltd.
In the phase prior to the execution of this brigade, Drummond Ltd. and the Banasan Foundation worked on the identification of the community to be impacted, in order to later advance in the call for proposals. Finally, we proceeded with the structuring of the 5 stations where the days of service were carried out.
“The people we are impacting with this project are inhabitants of the urban center, villages and surrounding areas, whose access to this type of specialized medicine is difficult due to economic and transportation issues,” said Yamile Rodriguez Akle, executive director of the Banasan Foundation.
The entity in charge of providing the health service was 2020 Vista, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the vision of people in developing countries. The procedures they implement in their projects include vision screenings, provision of eyeglasses and educating communities about eye diseases.
“We delivered more than 600 glasses during this day and it was a great success. Visual health in children is very important, it is what will really give them all their potential so that they can be good students and later be able to perform a better job,” said Juan Pablo Fernandez de Castro, president of the 2020 Vista organization.
This collective effort not only highlights the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, but also reaffirms the joint commitment to contribute to the well-being and integral development of neighboring populations.
