Drummond Ltd. highlights its commitment to responsible mining in its 2023 Sustainability Report

Highlighting significant progress in its environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) management, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Drummond Ltd. presents its 2023 Sustainability Report, “Energy for the Future.”

“This report reflects our efforts to integrate an environmentally and socially-responsible operation with our communities, and our approach to an energy transition that understands it as an integral process. Our commitment to the future is focused on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, maintaining a world-class operation that contributes to and strengthens regional development,” said José Miguel Linares, president of Drummond Ltd.

Among the most relevant environmental achievements in the report is 100% compliance with its Water Savings and Efficient Use Program (PAUEA), which allowed the company to save 2,062,405 m3 of water in its mining operations; the use of 82% of the total waste generated in its operations, and the intervention of 1,946 hectares within the framework of its protocol for the recovery of areas affected by mining.

In the social sphere, the company reported the allocation of COP$115,588,997,756 in different projects. Through its educational strengthening programs, for example, it benefited more than 6,000 students and teachers. By 2023, Drummond had given 227 higher education scholarships to young people (90 of them already graduated), 3,000 adults who received literacy, more than 500 interventions in educational infrastructure and more than 1,100 school classrooms built.

As part of its commitment to contribute to the productive diversification of the territories where it operates, it has promoted 1,280 entrepreneurs through the Entrepreneurship Incubator project, managing to finance 381 business plans and formulate 498 additional plans in order to create new business units.

The report also highlights that the mining company, by 2023, has trained 922 people from its area of influence in the department of Cesar in the operation of mining equipment through its In-House Program. In addition, it highlights its commitment to job creation, reporting 11,393, of which 72% are occupied by people born in Cesar and Magdalena.
