As part of its commitment to sustainable development and maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with the authorities, Drummond Ltd. received a visit from the Assembly members of the department of Cesar at the Pribbenow mine.
During the visit, the representatives of the assembly had the opportunity to learn first- hand about the responsible mining processes that the company carries out, as well as the practices that guarantee compliance with environmental and social regulations in the region.
“We are the representation of political actors who can make the region and the country aware of the importance of defending mining as the main economic activity of Cesar. We do not agree with the decisions that the national government wants to implement regarding mining and energy policies. With this visit we ratify that Drummond does responsible mining,” said Claudia Margarita Zuleta, deputy for the department of Cesar.
In addition, the Drummond Ltd. team, through presentations, showed the programs implemented by the company in environmental management, social investment initiatives, taxes, royalties and mining projects, with the objective of minimizing the impact of its operations to promote sustainable development in the region.
“If the largest amount of revenues in the department of Cesar come not only from royalties, but also from social investment by the mining sector, there is no reason why we should oppose Drummond’s responsible mining. The national government is making the wrong decisions, attacking such an important and productive sector within the development chain of the department of Cesar. I invite national government spokespersons to visit Drummond and see what they are doing for the different communities”, Fawzi Muvdi, deputy of the department of Cesar.
Reinforcing its Governance for Development pillar, these actions reaffirm Drummond Ltd.’s commitment to transparency and continuous improvement of its operations by fostering fluid and collaborative communication with local authorities and communities.
