La Loma, June 27, 2024
Ratifying its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities in its area of influence, Drummond Ltd. awarded housing to 80 families as part of the second stage of its High Impact Project, agreed with the municipal Mayors of La Jagua de Ibirico and Chiriguaná, Cesar.
“We are very happy because we are starting the second stage of our High Impact project, contributing to the transformation of the lives of the beneficiary families and demonstrating once again that we are a good neighbor for the communities in our area of influence,” said Juan Pablo Arteaga, Sustainability Vice President at Drummond Ltd.
The High Impact project, which provides decent housing for rural families in Drummond Ltd.’s area of influence, is part of the “Addendum” of the La Loma exploration and mining contract signed with the National Mining Agency.
“I thank Drummond for this opportunity to have a decent home for my family. I receive it with love and I thank God for having placed this company in the territory, which helps us to fulfill our dreams,” thanked Brigida Anillo Vásquez, a beneficiary of the High Impact project in La Palmita.
During the event, Drummond delivered the housing award letters to beneficiaries in the villages of La Victoria de San Isidro and La Palmita, in La Jagua de Ibirico, and La Aurora, Rincón Hondo, Los Cerrajones, Agua Fría, La Sierra, Ojo de Agua, and Arenas Blancas in Chiriguaná, Cesar.
Jaidys Orozco Fernández, a beneficiary of the High Impact Project in La Sierra, expressed her gratitude to the company: “I am very happy. I have long had the dream of owning my own home, and thanks to Drummond I will be able to fulfill it.”
The process for the transparent selection of beneficiary families was carried out by the Cesar branch of the Universidad de Santander, in accordance with the selection regulations. These include 20 variables in the evaluation of registered households, thus guaranteeing the prioritization of families with the highest level of vulnerability, including mothers who are heads of household, households with people with disabilities, and population of special protection groups.
“Once again, I am grateful to Drummond, whose High Impact project will bring joy to 40 families in La Jagua de Ibirico. Thank you for the great work you do for the communities,” commented Leonardo Hernández Cataño, Mayor of La Jagua de Ibirico, Cesar.
In each of the municipalities, the company will invest a total of more than USD$3.6 million (approximately $14 billion pesos) in the High Impact project, achieving the construction of 238 homes in the two phases, thus contributing to these rural families having a dignified place to live, the generation of employment, and the revitalization of the economy in the municipalities of La Jagua de Ibirico and Chiriguaná.
“Absolute joy in Chiriguaná with this announcement. Forty families will have the opportunity to sleep peacefully because they know that soon they will receive an extraordinary house, which are the best that have been built in our territory,” said José Carmelo Galiano Uscategui, Mayor of Chiriguaná, Cesar.
With the development of this project, Drummond Ltd. contributes to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 11, eradicating poverty and contributing to more sustainable communities.
