La Loma, April 26, 2024
As part of its commitment to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities in its area of influence, Drummond Ltd. began the delivery of 158 homes corresponding to the first stage of the High Impact Project, agreed with the municipalities of Chiriguaná and La Jagua de Ibirico.
“We are very pleased to be at the inauguration of these High Impact homes for families in a state of vulnerability. This is part of the company’s great commitment to the region and the country to generate development, wealth, progress, and to be at the side of those most in need, collaborating with our Corporate Social Responsibility program, which is focused on the welfare of the community,” said José Miguel Linares, president of Drummond Ltd.
In coordination with the local administrations, a total of 79 homes will be delivered in each municipality, built in an area of 71.40m2, with characteristics that guarantee optimal living conditions, benefiting close to 1,000 members of the 158 families selected.
The design of the houses, consisting of three bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom with top quality materials, took into account all seismic resistance regulations and the highest safety standards, as well as the cultural and climatic conditions of the region.
“The High Impact Project has its origin in the extension of the La Loma contract in 2019. We worked during the first year structuring the project, formulating it, designing houses, and selecting the beneficiaries in the territory,” explained Juan Pablo Arteaga, vice president of sustainability at Drummond Ltd.
With the delivery of the first stage of the project, the dream of 158 families from Cesar, who will have a decent place in which to meet their basic needs and build a better future, will be fulfilled. Drummond expects to expand this positive impact for the communities in the area of influence with the second stage of this project.
“I feel very happy because I can now provide a home for my children. They will be able to enjoy a very pleasant space. I am grateful to God and to Drummond for giving me this wonderful opportunity and for making this dream come true,” said Silvia Bermúdez, a beneficiary of the High Impact Project.
“It is with great pleasure that we receive these high impact homes that Drummond has brought to the municipality. We are happy, as are each of the beneficiaries, because logically, this is giving dignity to each of these homes,” said Leonardo Hernández, mayor of La Jagua de Ibirico, the municipality where 53 homes will be delivered in the township of La Palmita and 26 in the township of La Victoria de San Isidro, as part of the first stage of the project.
In Chiriguaná, the first stage houses were distributed in the towns of Rincón Hondo (19), La Aurora (17), Ojo de Agua (16), Los Cerrajones (7), Poponte (7), La Sierra (5), Agua Fría (5), and Arenas Blancas (3).
Carmen Flórez Carpio, a beneficiary of the High Impact Project in Arenas Blancas, expressed her gratitude to the company: “In our old home, every time it rained, the house would flood. That is why, together with my seven children, we are very happy with Drummond for the effort and love with which they have given us this gift from God, which we never imagined we would receive”.
The project, which involves an investment of US$7.2 million, seeks to reduce poverty and the deficit in the amount of houses in rural areas of the municipalities in the mining company’s area of influence.
With the delivery of these homes, Drummond Ltd. contributes to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 11, eradicating poverty and contributing to more sustainable communities.
