*With this new generation, the number of young people with access to higher education rises to 227.
Through ceremonies held in the cities of Valledupar and Santa Marta, Drummond Ltd. announced the beneficiaries of its Scholarship Program in 2024; 18 young people with academic excellence from its mining, railroad, and port areas of influence.
At the events, which were attended by local authorities from Cesar and Magdalena, the university scholarships were awarded with the signing of the award certificate. The benefit includes full payment of tuition plus a monthly maintenance allowance to support their expenses during the educational stage, in addition to the psychosocial support provided by Drummond, guaranteeing the economic and self-focused conditions necessary for the completion of their studies.
“By awarding these scholarships in the departments of Cesar and Magdalena, we once again reiterate the importance of education at Drummond. We are very proud of this program that transforms the lives not only of those who receive the scholarship, but also of their families and the community,” said José Miguel Linares, president of Drummond Ltd.
During the Cesar ceremony, Fabian Mieles Guette, a former graduate and professional in civil engineering, spoke about his experience and passage through the Program since he received the news until he finished his studies, in addition to mentioning the impact it had on his life and wishing the best of success to the new beneficiaries: “You will always have a helping hand from the Drummond communities team and the group of scholarship recipients, because the group of scholarship recipients is a family, and today we welcome them as our brothers and sisters. They will gladly receive our support. Thank you Drummond Ltd. for making many of our dreams possible, for always supporting education.
As part of the ceremony held in Magdalena, a special panel was held, in which beneficiaries of the program who have already received their professional degree, and who today work in the same company, told some anecdotes and how through this program, they were able to improve their quality of life and that of their families.
Later on, the names of the new Drummond Scholarships beneficiaries in the departments of Cesar and Magdalena were announced: Jhoan González, Natalia Mora, Abraham Basto, Neilis Silva and Sharit Castro (Agustín Codazzi); Juan Ortíz and Marley Pertuz (Chiriguananá); Moisés Marín (La Jagua de Ibirico); María de La Rosa (El Paso); Omar Pérez (El Copey); Lilian Mazziri (Becerril); Yuleimis Ramos and Juan Fuentes (Bosconia); Leonardo Hincapié, Laura Bello and Nikol Márquez (Ciénaga); Vanesa Echenique (Zona Bananera) and Daniel Rojano (Fundación).
“I am very happy to have won the Drummond Scholarship, because thanks to this I will be able to help my parents get ahead and contribute with civil engineering in my town,” said Abraham Basto, beneficiary of the Drummond 2024 Scholarships, a native of the village of Casacará, Agustín Codazzi.
“This opportunity to have won the scholarship means a lot to me, because this way I will be able to fulfill my dream of becoming an engineer. I will make the most of it. Today God has rewarded me to continue growing as a person,” said Daniel Rojano from the municipality of Fundación.
In both events, the participation of families, communities, and mayors from the company’s neighboring municipalities was important. “I have always been convinced that education gives power and that this is the opportunity that a company based in the municipality of Ciénaga, but with a huge impact on the department of Magdalena and Colombia, is giving us today. Every time I have the opportunity to meet with everyone I talk to in Drummond I will always tell them the same thing, keep supporting this, let’s keep moving forward with these processes because these are the processes that dignify us,” said Luis Fernández Quinto, Mayor of Ciénaga.
Irina Lara, mother of one of the beneficiaries from Cesar, commented: “We are very grateful to God and to the company for this opportunity for my son to move forward, so he can fulfill all his goals and purposes. Thanks to Drummond for changing the lives of many families like ours.”
This program, which in addition to the direct beneficiaries positively impacts families and the region, has been carried out since 2006, benefiting a total of 227 young people in their quest to fulfill their dream of becoming professionals and contribute to the social and economic development of Colombia.
Drummond is proud to make a positive impact in Colombia by contributing to the education of young people in the area of influence in Cesar and Magdalena.
