Within the framework of its commitment to strengthen the skills of its human talent, for the second time, Drummond Ltd., in coordination with SENA, certified employees in the advanced level of forklift operation.
“Drummond is committed to training its employees, not only for better performance, but also to make them better people and have greater job skills in the future,” said Steven Gallagher, inventory manager for Drummond Ltd.’s Materials Department.

The labor skills certification is a program led by SENA to verify and certify the abilities, skills and knowledge that a person has in order to carry out a specific function or task.
“The idea of conducting this certification was born as a result of an analysis of the population. We identified that a large number of employees operated forklifts and we set the goal for 2023 to certify their skills through SENA, and we achieved it,” said Fabio Albor, Training Department supervisor for Drummond Ltd.’s mining operations who, with his group of specialist trainers, was in charge of training and evaluating the group of candidates.
The training period, which lasted five months and included four phases, dealt with technical-theoretical and practical training for more than 60 employees.
“The process began with updating our evaluators. Then, we held meetings with SENA officials to implement the timing agreements according to the phases of the program. With the supervisors of the Materials Area we managed to obtain the necessary spaces for the development of the program and complete it successfully, as we can corroborate today,” highlighted Fabio Albor.
Forklifts are the main equipment in the warehouses of the mining company’s operations, hence the importance of strengthening the technical capabilities associated with the skills of the operators, in which a safer work environment is promoted.
“Our experience in the training that Drummond conducted in forklift handling was satisfactory because we went from being empirical operators to being certified, which ensures that we have the skills to carry out the work safely,” explained Yomar Daza Maestre, participant of the certification.
For his part, Aurelio Brujes Sierra, extended his gratitude to the company for including him in this training: “I thank the company for providing us with this type of training that is important to manage operations safely, which means that we can be operating equipment forklifts worldwide”.
With these actions, Drummond promotes its safety culture and complies with its training philosophy, managing to train its staff for better performance and quality in the different operational processes.
