Within the framework of its commitment to contribute to the educational quality in its zones of influence, Drummond Ltd., in partnership with local administrations, works on construction, reconstruction, adaptation, and provision projects for schools.
“At Drummond, we continue to strengthen the institutional and community capabilities of the educational sector in the municipalities of the area of influence. The local administration is weaving progress into the rural and urban zones, reducing inequalities in school infrastructure. Having proper school environments directly impacts the academic results and development of all children and youth”, highlighted Yilda Tatiana Pineda, senior supervisor for community relations at Drummond Ltd.
The most recent presentation, the Divino Niño School in the village of La Guarumera, was an investment of more than $682 million pesos and included the construction of two new classrooms, a student dining room, sanitary units, and provision of school furniture.
“This school, built by Drummond, strongly helps to improve the community’s quality of life, especially, that of the students. The conditions in which it was before were not the best, and today we find an absolute change that without a doubt helps us reach some of our goals in the development plan, as there have been many schools that we have presented together with Drummond”, expressed Ovelio Jiménez, mayor of La Jagua de Ibirico.
The work with which Drummond contributes to the compliance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Objective number four, Quality Education, directly and indirectly benefits 150 inhabitants of the village.
“We are thankful to Drummond for having contributed its grain of sand for the construction of this school. It is very satisfying for us and for the surrounding villages, which will also benefit”, thanked Luis Hernández, president of Asojunta.
The rural zone of the municipality of La Jagua de Ibirico has benefited with the interventions of 11 schools including construction, infrastructure improvements, and provisions: Martín Emilio Hernández School in the village of Altos de las Flores; Argentina Norte School in the village of Argentina Norte; Zumbador School in the village of Zumbador Alto; La Libertad School in the village of La Libertad; La Esmeralda School in the village of La Esmeralda; Tolima School in the village of Tolima; San Isidro School in the village of San Isidro; La Lucha School in the village of La Estrella; Las Ánimas School in the village of Las Ánimas; Caño Adentro School in the village of Caño Adentro, and Divino Niño School in the village of La Guarumera.
Next, the mining Company will be presenting another school in La Jagua de Ibirico, located in the village of Argentina Sur, in the township of La Victoria de San Isidro.
