La Loma – November 25, 2022
Drummond Ltd. continues to ratify its commitment to strengthening of the education sector in its area of influence. Recently, it made significant contributions to educational institutions in the municipalities of Becerril and Agustín Codazzi, in Cesar.
“We make an effort to improve and adapt school environments so that the children in our area of influence have access to quality education. This initiative is carried out in the framework of our corporate social responsibility strategy, in the pillars of Governability for Development and Integral Development, where we strengthen the institutional and community capacity of the education sector,” stated Yilda Tatiana Pineda, Drummond’s Senior Supervisor of Community Relations in Cesar.
In fulfillment of the project for educational infrastructure improvement at five institutions in the municipality of Agustín Codazzi, Drummond Ltd, in agreement with the local administration, delivered the second school that was worked on, the Institución Educativa Antonio Galo Lafaurie Celedón, Obrero campus.
“I am grateful to the Drummond company and the mayor for having rebuilt our school for us. Today approximately 180 students return to the classroom after more than a year of being away due to poor conditions of the school,” said Esnilda Barrios, a teacher at the institution.
Among the improvements made, renovation of the restrooms, improvement of the kitchen and dining room, and installation of new electrical wiring and a new roof stand out, as well as the painting of each of the institution’s spaces.
“This is a school that was vandalized before and during the pandemic. Thanks to this project, in which we received the determined support of Drummond Ltd, we are delivering the second completed school of the five institutions worked on,” declared Omar Benjumea, mayor of the municipality of Agustín Codazzi.
Socialization of an educational project
Drummond Ltd, together with the municipal administration, also socialized the project for the construction of two classrooms, restrooms and kitchen/dining area at the Centro Educativo Villa Matilde, El Centro campus, located in the rural area of the municipality of Becerril, with the aim of making known the improvements that will be made to the infrastructure of the institution.
At present, the educational establishment does not possess suitable conditions for providing good service to the students due to the deterioration of its infrastructure and poor conditions of its restrooms and meal area.
Marinela Peinado, a teacher at the school, said, “Thank you, Drummond, for having taken us into account for the work that is going to be done at our institution. The children who study here now needed a project like this a long time ago in order to enjoy an integral education that will allow them to have a better future.”
The construction will expand the student capacity of the institution, allowing more children of this rural area of Becerril access to education. The project will have an estimated duration of three months. Drummond Ltd will assume the entire cost of execution of the work, $517,674,109.
“I want to thank Drummond Ltd for listening to the community and making possible this construction, which is a necessity for our children in this rural area and in order to make their dreams of having spaces propitious for appropriate academic development come true,” said Raúl Machado Luna, mayor of the municipality of Becerril.
