Drummond Ltd, in partnership with the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina, strengthened the production units of 48 teams of entrepreneurs in the municipalities of Agustín Codazzi, Becerril, Chiriguaná, La Jagua de Ibirico and El Paso in Cesar by means of providing production capitalizations through the Entrepreneurship Incubator project, MIDE.
“The Incubator project contributes to the strengthening of local capacities and to the development of human capital as part of the company’s commitment to regional development and improvement of the quality of life of the communities. We support diversification of production, reactivation and socioeconomic stability, thus contributing to the socioeconomic transition of the region towards a post-mining scenario,” underlined William Espinosa, Coordinator of Drummond Ltd’s Corporate Social Responsibility Environmental Projects.
The Incubator has a mobile service scheme with an interdisciplinary team that has expertise in business and entrepreneurship, which to date has characterized 704 entrepreneurs for the design of business strengthening plans.
At present, the project is in the phase of follow-up and monitoring of the first cohort of supported entrepreneurs, with which the phase of co-funding of the business plans was completed. To this end, around 300 million pesos were invested in the purchase of equipment, supplies and tools that are provided according to individual needs.
The project seeks to position itself in the region as a driver of economic reactivation, contributing to achievement of the targets set out in the municipal development plans with regard to the development of production and employment, in addition to reinforcing technical capacities for the formulation and execution of their business plans and, in a crosscutting manner, the social and emotional skills of local entrepreneurs and businesspeople.
“We are very satisfied with and grateful to Drummond and the Áreandina, who have provided their willpower, and today more than one of the groups of selected associations have benefited,” said Alexander Prieto, Legal Representative of Ecogranja Priarca, one of the 48 business units that have participated in the Incubation and Business Development Model.
This project became even more important in the face of the economic crisis generated by the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, which reinforces the need to contribute to economic reactivation and to diversify the local economy of the communities.
