Drummond and Ltd. once more affirms its commitment to the professional and personal development of the country’s youth. In this occasion, thanks to the technological transfer agreement, it received at the Pribbenow mine students from the mine engineering program at Universidad Área Andina, Valledupar campus.
The objective of the visit was to strengthen, in a practical manner, the knowledge obtained in the training provided by the company regarding the mining method using draglines and armored feeders. A walk-through was conducted through the El Corozo and El Descanso mines, where they were able to observe the operational processes and understand other technical characteristics of the operation.
“For the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina as an institution, and for the Mine Engineering Program, it is a pleasure to be able to have this opportunity to visit Drummond. We see that through the technological transfer agreement, the students have the opportunity to understand the operations and how responsible mining is conducted, which is the type of mining that Drummond conducts”, stated Viviana Arenas, coordinator for the Mine Engineering and Geology Engineering Program for Área Andina, Valledupar Campus.
It is worth mentioning that Drummond Ltd. is the only mining company in the country and in Latina America where operations have dragline and armored feeder systems. This is the equipment that removes alluvial material, which allowis access to the coal mantles in an efficient manner.
“These spaces ratify the company’s social commitment with youth and their education, opening doors and allowing the students to have contact with the mining operation to observe how ours works. It allows them to connect the theoretical knowledge received at the university with the best mining practices applied at Drummond Ltd. This experience guides them to meet their desired professional and academic goals”, affirmed Rafael Martínez, Planning Engineer for draglines.
Drummond Ltd. will continue to generate spaces to promote and strengthen training and education related to responsible mining in the country; with this we will demonstrate that educating is conducting mining with a positive impact.
