In partnership with the National Learning Service (SENA), Drummond Ltd. and its contractors have moved forward with their Program of Dual Formation, which creates incentives for training and employment in the areas of influence of the mining company.
The program, which began on October 15, 2019, and will conclude in February this year, was divided into two phases: the academic phase, and the practical phase. The first phase took place at the SENA facilities, at the La Jagua de Ibirico campus, and the second phase took place at Drummond´s mining operations in Cesar.
“The apprentices will have an opportunity to provide services to Drummond once they conclude the Dual Formation Program, based on the experience they have acquired during the course,” commented Humberto Correa, Director of Contracts at Drummond Ltd.
The program, which benefits 65 people, has the goal of making it possible for those who successfully conclude the course to work with Drummond’s contractors in the mining operations.
“I’m really grateful, first to God for this opportunity he gave me, and to Drummond, for giving this opportunity to the Department’s young people. They allowed us to get a vocational education that will help me provide for my family and make it possible to get somewhere in life,” said Dairo Escobar,
who received training through the program.
The people who have benefited from the program, and are now practicing with the machines, live in the municipalities of Agustín Codazzi, Becerril, La Jagua de Ibirico, El Paso and Chiriguaná, Cesar.
“The experience has been very good for everyone; it has been good for our growth. Now, in the practical phase, we are learning lots about maintaining equipment. We are almost done with the process. I am really grateful to Drummond and to MASA. The program is very interesting,” stated Rafael del Villa, another student in the course.
Drummond will continue to create partnerships like this one that help strengthen local skills in its areas of influence.
