In order to continue contributing to the well-being and quality of life of the communities in the area of influence of its operations, Drummond Ltd. carried out a second ophthalmological health brigade, which for three days provided specialized care to more than 600 people in the villages of Casacará and Llerasca, in the municipality of Agustín Codazzi, Cesar.
The event was held in partnership with the 20/20 Vista Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the visual health of populations in developing countries, and the AC Foundation was the logistical operator of the process, facilitating the coordination and care of the beneficiaries.
During the days of the activity, visual assessments and ophthalmological diagnoses were performed, which allowed the identification of ocular conditions and the orientation of timely treatments for each participant.
“I am now 10 out of 10. I had been seeing blurry in the distance for a long time, but thanks to you for thinking of us, I have my glasses on,” said Sandra Beltrán Araújo, a beneficiary of the event.

As part of the activity, formulated eyeglasses were delivered, adapted to the needs of each patient and with frame and material options designed to be assembled immediately or arranged for later delivery, depending on the diagnosis.
The day was also accompanied by the Nancy Flórez García Laboratory, which provided support with the taking of blood samples as part of the integral approach to preventive health.
Also noteworthy was the participation of volunteers from the communities and Company employees, who supported the orientation, logistics and community support activities, strengthening the sense of service. The presence of officials from the Agustin Codazzi Hospital and the Eye Clinic of Valledupar is also noteworthy.

“This event is part of our corporate social responsibility strategy, with which we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being and development of the territory. People, including children, adults and senior citizens, benefited from this initiative that promotes health care and strengthens the social fabric,” said Juan Pablo Arteaga, vice president of corporate social responsibility.
Activities such as these demonstrate that the presence of mining and the Drummond Ltd.’s social work in the territory generates wellbeing and sustainable development for its communities.
