In order to generate sustainable development and improve the quality of life of the communities and their employees, Drummond Ltd. has consolidated a solid investment strategy focused on facilitating access to decent housing.

Through various programs and projects, including the construction of housing, the improvement of living conditions and access to loans with “soft” interest rates, the mining company has made it possible for thousands of families to realize their dream of owning their own home or in decent conditions. These initiatives ratify Drummond’s commitment to equity, well-being and the strengthening of the social fabric.

“Our commitment transcends the delivery of a house. The goal is to contribute to the integral wellbeing of families and to positively transform their environment. “Seeing how our employees and the surrounding communities achieve their dream of owning their own homes is one of our greatest prides as a company,” said José Miguel Linares, president of Drummond Ltd.

High Impact Project

This year, Drummond Ltd. successfully completed the High Impact project, benefiting 240 families in the municipalities of La Jagua de Ibirico and Chiriguaná, Cesar. The project was executed in coordination with the municipal governments and became one of the most significant social housing programs in the mining corridor.

The houses were designed under the highest standards of seismic resistance and comfort, adapted to the cultural and climatic conditions of the region. In addition, the beneficiary selection process was carried out with the technical support of the Universidad de Santander (UDES) and the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina, guaranteeing transparency, equity and citizen participation.

The success of the model has led to its continuation in the municipality of El Paso, where an agreed-upon project that will benefit more than 100 families in the towns of Cuatro Vientos, El Carmen, El Vallito, La Loma and Potrerillo is already in the feasibility phase.

Employee Housing Finance Program

For more than 25 years, Drummond Ltd. has operated a Revolving Fund that offers loans to its employees for the purchase, construction and remodeling of housing, mortgage debt restructuring and lot purchases.

This fund was designed so that the resources invested by the company, as well as the amortization fees paid by the beneficiaries, could be reused and allow new workers to access the benefit. During its history the fund has disbursed more than 3,060 loans to 2,859 workers, for an approximate value of $122.7 billion, and currently has 783 active loans.

The program, developed under preferential conditions – interest rates that are well below those offered by the Colombian financial system and long repayment terms – approves between 200 and 240 loans per year, strengthening access to home ownership for all unionized employees of the company.

Improvement of living conditions in rural areas project

In order to meet the needs of the most vulnerable households in the mining corridor, Drummond Ltd. implemented the project “Improvement of living conditions in rural areas”, benefiting 50 families in the municipalities of Chiriguaná, El Paso and La Jagua de Ibirico.

This initiative, which is part of the Environment and Living line of the Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, seeks to reduce the housing shortage by adapting and improving rural housing.

The process was carried out with the active participation of the communities and the coordination of the municipal administrations. The Socya Foundation led the selection and diagnosis of the homes, while the Minuto de Dios Corporation assumed the technical and social auditing, ensuring transparency and quality at each stage.

Housing projects in Boquerón, El Hatillo and Plan Bonito

As part of its social and environmental commitments, Drummond Ltd., in compliance with the El Hatillo and Plan Bonito resettlement processes and the Boquerón Socioeconomic Management Plan, implements housing projects aimed at improving living conditions and contributing to the well-being of the communities.

In El Hatillo and Plan Bonito, it executes the programs derived from the Resettlement Action Plans (PAR), in accordance with Resolutions 970 and 1525 of 2010, with the acquisition of 251 homes -153 in El Hatillo and 98 in Plan Bonito- benefiting 296 families.

In Boquerón (La Jagua de Ibirico), the company is developing the “Improvement of living conditions” program, in compliance with Resolution 664 of 2022 of the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA), which contemplates the construction or improvement of 424 homes.

Through these investments, the company directly contributes to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to poverty reduction, adequate housing and the promotion of sustainable communities.

Drummond Ltd. will continue to strengthen these programs so that more families can continue to fulfill their dream of owning a decent and safe home.
