Once again, Drummond Ltd., in partnership with the Chiriguaná City Hall, is committed to transforming education in Cesar through spaces that have a positive impact and improve the learning conditions of young people. Proof of this are the projects delivered to four educational institutions in the municipality, benefiting more than 3,800 students.

The improvements were concentrated in the I.E. Juan Mejía Gómez, I.E. Juan Mejía Gómez, I.E. Rafael Argote Vega institutions, both located in the municipal area, and the I.E. Luis Felipe Centeno, from the town of Poponte. These prioritized several classrooms and included improvements to the roof, installation of ceilings, adaptation of electrical systems, renovation of floors an connections, metal carp entry work, internal and external finishes, as well as the raising and reinforcement of the perimeter enclosure wall in one of the institutions (Rafael Argote Vega).

In addition, the projects delivered at the Manuel Germán Cuello Educational Institution in Rincón Hondo, in the town of Chiriguaná, and financed entirely by Drummond Ltd., focused on the construction of two new classrooms and the provision of furniture for each one. It is worth mentioning that, previously, this institution had benefited from the construction of the first two classrooms. In addition to these new buildings, four new classrooms have been delivered for the benefit of the student population.

As part of the joint work for the execution of the infrastructure improvement projects at the Juan Mejía Gómez, Rafael Argote Vega and Luis Felipe Centeno schools, Drummond Ltd. provided the construction materials and the Mayor’s Office of Chiriguaná provided the labor and follow-up. According to Yilda Pineda García, senior supervisor of community and government relations, “Drummond continues to strengthen the institutional and community capacity of the municipalities in the area of influence. Drummond does not act alone in the territory. All our projects are agreed with the municipal administration and the community. The Territorial Entity gives us the formulated projects, provides us with technical support, and in some projects we work together or co-finance them, and in others we develop them at full cost”.

As Juan Carlos García Mejía, mayor of Chiriguaná, Cesar, points out, “Drummond has become a good neighbor for these territories, which will allow us to continue climbing the most important stage of our young people’s lives: education.

During the event, students who had not seen the completion of the projects were surprised, as expressed by Dulce María Sánchez Solano, student representative of the school. Manuel Germán Cuello: “Having new classrooms means we are going to have better access to education. As students, really, we are very grateful, because we are going to enjoy it very much. Many thanks to Drummond and also to the municipality for making this possible.

For Drummond, contributing to the infrastructure and optimization of educational environments has become a key priority to improve the quality of education in the regions where it operates, providing scenarios for more young people to grow up in ideal learning and knowledge environments.
