In line with its commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of communities near its operations, Drummond Ltd. socialized three new infrastructure projects in the municipality of Becerril that will benefit students, teachers and rural inhabitants.
“We have agreed to give priority to education, especially in rural areas. In Drummond we are helping to reduce the gaps and inequalities in educational infrastructure,” said Yilda Tatiana Pineda, senior supervisor of community relations and governance at Drummond Ltd.
In the main headquarters of the Villa Matilde Educational Center, the mining company will build a sanitary battery and four new school classrooms, with the aim of offering decent and adequate spaces for learning. In addition, at the Canaima headquarters of the same institution, it will carry out the construction of two new classrooms, responding to the growth of the educational community in this area.
“On behalf of all my colleagues we want to thank Drummond for these new classrooms that will serve for a better education,” said Leidys Mercado Roa, a student at Villa Matilde Educational Institution, Canaima campus.

Complementing its commitment to training and community strengthening, Drummond will also build a community hall in the village of Canaima, aimed at developing educational, cultural and social activities, thus strengthening integration and citizen participation.
The projects, which total an investment of more than 1.1 billion pesos, will be implemented in partnership with the Municipal Mayor of Becerril.
“This is a strategic alliance between Drummond and the city administration, and it’s a good thing that our children can improve their educational quality, that they have concerted spaces, so that they can study and concentrate. We thank God and Drummond for taking Becerril and the rural area into account, because this is in favor of the development of our territory,” said Thalía Armenta Amaya, secretary of government, education and administrative affairs of Becerril.

With these actions, Drummond reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of life of the communities where it operates, thus contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
