Within the framework of the Environmental Licensing Strategy, Drummond Ltd. held the workshop “Social appropriation within the framework of Environmental Licensing for participation from a leadership role,” aimed at leaders and representatives of the communities surrounding the operations, as well as municipal authorities from Agustín Codazzi, Becerril, La Jagua de Ibirico, Chiriguaná and El Paso, Cesar.

The training was conducted in the municipalities of Becerril and El Paso, Cesar, and was taught by INERCO, a company specializing in environmental consulting.

“We identified the need to strengthen the knowledge of community leaders and representatives of municipal authorities in citizen participation mechanisms and environmental licensing. By providing them with new tools, we promote informed and effective participation in environmental licensing projects,” explained Rubén Pinilla Castañeda, senior supervisor of environmental permits at Drummond Ltd.

During the day, participants delved into the role of community leaders in citizen participation and environmental licensing processes. Key issues were also addressed, such as mechanisms for citizen participation during the preparation of environmental impact studies and the importance of joint work between the State, communities, and companies.

“We are grateful to Drummond and INERCO, who have come today to provide essential knowledge about the guidelines that we must adopt when companies apply for licenses and environmental actions in the municipality. It was a great space, with quality panelists and a wonderful event for all of us,” said José Miguel Gutiérrez Zapata, municipal representative of Becerril, Cesar.

Drummond reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and capacity building among its stakeholders, promoting training spaces that facilitate informed participation in strategic environmental issues for the region.
