In the framework of its commitment to contribute to sustainable development and the well-being of the communities in its area of influence, Drummond Ltd., together with the Fauna Caribe Colombiana Foundation, and with the support of the National Authority of Aquaculture and Fishing (Aunap), released 1,000,000 juvenile bocachico and dorada fish fingerlings in the Ciénaga Mata de Palma, the El Zorro stream, and the Paujil Reservoir, located in the department of Cesar.
“From Drummond Ltd., we reaffirm our environmental commitment to the ecosystems in our area of influence. This important project aims to restore ecological balance and promote sustainable economic development for the fishing communities that depend on these resources,” highlighted Jair Deluque Vega, environmental project engineer at Drummond Ltd.

400,000 fingerlings were released in the Paujil Reservoir, a vital body of water within Drummond’s operational area that benefits the communities settled downstream. Also, 400,000 fingerlings were released in the Mata de Palma Swamp and 200,000 in the El Zorro Stream, for a total of 1,000,000.
These processes, which were supported by the Potrerillo Fishermen’s Association (Asopespo) and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen, Farmers, and Afro-descendants of Becerril (Asopaaab), aim to revitalize the aquatic ecosystems of the region, ensuring the sustainability of natural resources and strengthening the living conditions of local fishing communities.
“I want to thank Drummond for considering us to supervise and monitor this release. This initiative ensures us the possibility of supporting our families and is beneficial for everyone, since through this release, we can continue doing what we have always done: fishing. Thanks to Drummond for this purpose and for their support,” expressed Aldemar Carvajal, president of Asopaaab.
The importance of this project lies not only in the restoration of aquatic ecosystems but also in the strengthening of fishing communities that depend on these resources. With this action, the goal is to ensure the sustainability of the environment and improve the living conditions of the families that are part of the area of influence of Drummond, promoting both biodiversity and social well-being.
“Always grateful to God and to Drummond for this opportunity to strengthen the fishing sector of this community,” thanked Olga Hernández Morales, a member of Asopespo.
This project, framed within the environmental compensation strategies of the mining company, reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable practices, driving a more balanced and prosperous future for the communities of Cesar.
