Bogota, August 29, 2024

Within the framework of the tenth edition of the annual mining congress organized by the Colombian Mining Association (ACM), Drummond Ltd. executives, headed by its president José Miguel Linares and Chief Sustainability Officer Carolina Riaño, talked about coal mining, and how it can contribute to an efficient and responsible transition, with the five mayors of the Cesar mining corridor (José Carmelo Galiano from Chiriguaná, Leonardo Hernández from La Jagua from Ibirico, Jesús Alberto Ortiz from El Paso, Fabián Eduardo Martínez from Becerril and Hernán Eduardo Baquero from Agustín Codazzi).

During the meeting they discussed topics of mutual interest and of great strategic importance for the region, such as employability, both from the perspective of the company and for contracting companies, associative supply projects, and even for business entrepreneurship incubators.

The importance of working in partnership between local administrations and the mining company was emphasized, in order to make the best use of the resources generated by the country’s main coal production and export project.

It is important to remember that, in addition to generating 11,000 direct jobs, nearly 50,000 indirect jobs, and developing an important local supply network, Drummond has been implementing a sustainability strategy focused on improving the quality of life in its area of influence.
