Ciénaga, August 8, 2024
With general improvements to the area, including the principal’s office, computer and language classrooms and laboratories, as well as other critical spaces in the central block of the Virginia Gómez Educational Institution, Drummond Ltd. and the Municipal Mayor’s Office worked together to improve learning conditions for the 3,386 students at the school located in Ciénaga, Magdalena.
The dedication ceremony for the improvements was attended by teachers, students, parents and community leaders, who expressed their gratitude and satisfaction with the quality of the work.
“Today we take great pleasure in dedicating this project, which not only improves learning environments. It is also strengthened through our skill-building program and recognition of academic excellence with our Scholarship Program. We are all aware that the education sector is a critical part of the company’s social responsibility,” said Álvaro Daza Pinedo, Senior Community and Government Relations Supervisor for Magdalena at Drummond Ltd.
Additionally, the Mayor of Ciénaga, Luis Fernández Quinto, urged students and the school community to take care of the institution: “We ask you, just as we deliver it with open arms, that you be the ones to maintain it, that you be the ones to give it that much-needed use.”
For updating and outfitting the project, it was necessary to fix the ceiling, roof, repair walls, update bathrooms, windows, doors, replace floors, install air conditioners and fans, among other repairs.
“Our hearts are full of happiness thanks to this project given to us by the mayor’s office and Drummond; we are truly grateful. This will help us to improve our education, because it is not just based on pencils and notebooks, it is also based on having a comfortable space,” said Cristina Hernández Hernández, student representative for the Virginia Gómez Educational Institution.
By renovating this space, Drummond and its partners are improving educational experiences and contributing to the comprehensive development of the young people in the region by providing an optimal, high-quality educational environment in which current and future generations can study.
