As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable alternatives for the future of the region, Drummond Ltd. is moving forward with the second phase of ‘Proyéctate +,’ a program designed to build skills in the creation, management and administration of projects by 10 trade associations in the municipalities of La Jagua de Ibirico, El Paso and Chiriguaná.
Drummond’s collaboration with the operator, Fundación Instituto Bartolomé de las Casas (INUBAC), has allowed it to make significant progress in the development of the project. The partnership has been critical to provide support and open up opportunities to associations from various economic sectors in the company’s area of influence, promoting the growth and comprehensive development of the local communities.
“For us, being able to participate in this project is a wonderful experience, since we can acquire valuable knowledge through it for developing and maintaining our economic activity. The learning is very dynamic and practical, showing ASOPAPE a different outlook for the development of watermelon farming families,” said Alexander Mendoza, representative for the Association of Watermelon Farmers and Fishermen of El Paso (ASOPAPE).
Through the methodologies and strategies applied during the training sessions, the associations have acquired valuable knowledge that has allowed them to adopt more effective approaches in their income-producing activities, optimizing their project management and strengthening their impact on the community.
Ever Carrillo, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator at Drummond Ltd., said that, “in 2024, we are beginning the second phase of this initiative. We will begin with the application of feasibility and viability studies the projects that were already created in coordination with the associations, to later go through an exercise to seek funding sources through different calls for public bids, private sector partnerships and offers for international cooperation.”
“There has been a change in the associations in terms of improving their knowledge. There were associations that did not have business software skills that were strengthened, in addition to the creation of projects and technology management. The goals we set have been met, for the associations to complete the trainings and for them to be reflected in the project’s outcome,” said Cesar Romero, Regional Manager for INUBAC, project operator.
Drummond will continue to support initiatives that drive economic and social growth in its area of influence, working closely with its partners and beneficiaries to build a more prosperous and sustainable future.
