In keeping with its environmental commitment, during 2023, Drummond Ltd. took advantage of 82 % of the waste generated in its mining and port operations, that is, it recovered 24,930 tons of waste out of the 30,579 tons generated, through its Integral Waste Management Program (PGIR for its initials in Spanish).
It is important to highlight that 54% of the waste collected (16,574 tons) corresponded to non-hazardous waste, such as scrap metal, wood, cardboard, plastic, glass, and used tires, while the remaining 27% (8,356 tons) corresponded to hazardous waste, such as oily solids, used oils, lights, batteries, soil affected by hydrocarbons, and electrical and electronic equipment.
For waste management, Drummond has 341 “clean points” distributed throughout its mining and port operations, which are identified by a color code. The company conducts the daily collection process for its classification and temporary storage, for its subsequent commercialization and recovery by an external environmental manager.

“The results obtained reaffirm the commitment of employees and contractors to comply with the environmental standards established for the proper segregation and classification of waste, in line with the environmental strategies established by the company to maximize the use of waste generated in its operations,” said Carlos Contreras, lead supervisor of environmental management at Drummond Ltd.
