As part of its commitment to share its responsible practices, Drummond Ltd. participated in the IV International Seminar on Mining and Mining Planning, organized by Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in the city of Medellin.
During the presentation “Environmental recovery process in intervened areas”, Decireth Quintero Laverde, the company’s environmental recovery coordinator, shared the procedure conducted for the environmental restoration of areas that are intervened by the mining operation. In addition, she showed the before and after of a revegetated area, an outstanding example of the work being done.
“We showed them the environmental recovery process executed by our company, which consists of several activities such as: slope stabilization, extension of organic soil, seed spreading, and tree planting, with which we guarantee the vegetation cover of our operations and with which we have shown that the development of the mining industry and the protection of the environment can be compatible,” said Decireth Quintero.

Next, Rafael Martinez Plata, Drummond Ltd. planning-dragline engineer spoke in general terms about the exploitation projects and explained how their operations are innovative with the draglines and armored feeders mining method.
“We shared our experience in the application of a mining method based on draglines and armored feeders, which is outside of conventional methods and a sign that at Drummond we keep innovating, with the intention of doing mining with a positive impact” , explained Rafael Martinez.

On the other hand, Pablo Urrutia Escobar, Public Affairs and Communications Vice-president for the mining company, participated in the panel “Towards mining as a pillar of the energy transition”, moderated by former vice-minister of mines Giovanni Franco Sepulveda, in which they shared leading experiences from different mining companies. In this space, he explained everything about the work being carried out at Drummond to contribute to the energy transition, including its Carbon Neutrality strategy by 2050. “We share our experience in the development of our Carbon Neutrality strategy and what that means for the energy transition, and above all, the socioeconomic transition of the communities in the regions where we operate. The point we emphasized here was to carry out a responsible and gradual energy transition,” emphasized Pablo Urrutia.

In addition to this, the company, with operational headquarters in Cesar and Magdalena, had a space at the event’s trade fair, where through a stand, it was able to tell the different attendees how it conducts mining with social and environmental commitment.
