Ciénaga – November 24, 2022
During the “2022 Emergency Brigade Contest”, Drummond took first place for the second consecutive time. In 2019, during its first participation in this brigade contest that the ARL has held since 2013, Drummond Ltd. also took first place. This event was organized by ARL Bolívar, in partnership with the company IRO Ingeniería de Riesgos Ocupacionales SAS.
The contest, held in Barranquilla, Atlántico, had the purpose of putting into practice the knowledge acquired regarding the handling and management of emergencies by way of the “Profe” training platform of the ARL.
Up to eighteen companies participate in this event each year, with an average of ten brigade members per company, for an approximate total of 130 brigade members per competition. On this occasion, in addition to Drummond Ltd, companies of the industrial sector such as Tecnoglass, Energía Solar S.A., Su Servicio Inmediato S.A.S, A
Construir S.A, Supergiros, Clínica San Diego, Logicem S.A.S, Baterías Willard, Grupo Aeroportuario del Caribe S.A.S., Ultracem, Grupo Eventuales and the Universidad Simón Bolívar participated.
During the competition, the brigade members put their knowledge to the test to solve the fifteen emergency scenarios recreated in the shortest possible time and with the greatest quality of action, while meeting the required safety standards. Some of the scenarios were the handling of fire hoses, search and rescue, suddenly occurring illnesses, a vehicle accident, off-ground rescue and the handling of stress in emergency situations, among others.
Diego Quintero, a Drummond warehouse assistant and member of the company´s brigade, said, “It was an entire success from the time we started participating. All of our knowledge and training are worth it, and our dedication and effort are reflected in the results, which was a first place (…) Being trained for this kind of scenario can make the difference between the life and death of a worker!”
Leiner Puche, senior supervisor of Industrial Safety at Drummond, highlighted the importance of these meetings for the company: ‘This is a space to demonstrate that Drummond is a very organized company, that takes safety very seriously, and that it truly is our way of life. So, what better time to participate in a brigade meeting and demonstrate how solid our training program, emergency response protocols, and overall structure is that maintains our disaster risk management plan, since the emergency brigade program belongs to this structure in the chapter on emergency and contingency plans’.
In this regard, Kelly Utria, Work Safety and Health Management Systems professional for ARL Seguros Bolívar and Risk Management Specialist associated with Drummond Ltd, stated, “Of course it is important that Drummond participate. It is important not only for the company but also for the brigade member as such. I know that they love what they do, know first hand what the function of the brigade member is, and that in order to do this kind of work, love and passion for what one does is necessary. An excellent brigade member contributes 100% to the safety culture of any company.”
A copy of the award will be exhibited at the facilities for all employees to take pride in.
Drummond will continue to participate in this kind of contest, that highlights and puts to the test the training work of its brigade members, in strengthening its institutional work safety and health practices.
