Drummond Ltd. and the Fundación Fauna Caribe Colombiana work with the community of Mata de Palma Marsh

* Materials to strengthen the artisan fish farming activity.

Within the framework of the community and institutional strengthening program, Drummond Ltd., together with the Fundación Fauna Caribe Colombiana, delivered fishing materials to consolidate the artisan fish farming activity in the Mata de Palma marsh, township of Potrerillo, in the municipality of El Paso, Cesar.

The activity was attended by representatives from the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority (AUNAP), the President for the municipal council for El Paso and representatives from the community.

During the activity, the company delivered work materials such as 29 fridges, 29 nylon cast nets, 29 wheelbarrows, 29 good fishing practice and manufacturing kits, 29 diving suits with solar protection, 29 hoods, 29 goggles with UV protection, 29 hats with protection, 29 biosafety kits, 29 waterproof items, and a vessel with an outside engine.

As stated by Armando Calvano, biodiversity and environmental compensation manager for Drummond Ltd., and who has permanently accompanied this project and other activities conducted with the fishing communities: “The goal of these supplies is to comply with a series of agreements that we have reached with this community within the framework of the Compensation Program, where one of the agreements, after the trainings under the Colombian National Law for artisan fishing, was to deliver fishing elements to strengthen the productive development of their activities”.

Likewise, Kelly Johana Pana, president for the Community Action Board for the municipality of El Paso, Cesar, expressed: “This shows the commitment that Drummond has as a good neighbor, which is part of its social responsibility. For the fishing community these contributions are of high impact as they strengthen the capabilities and contribute to the development of the activity that they perform every day”.

“This type of activity by Drummond is extremely important, as it strengthens fishing associations in the township of Potrerillo, who were very happy to receive these supplies and are extremely grateful with the company for their true commitment with this association and with the community”, ensured Carlos Mario Blanco Campo, council president for the municipality of El Paso, Cesar.

Drummond will continue to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Objectives, in this case, numbers two and eight, ratifying in this way its commitment with the communities in these sectors so that their activity can be more profitable with the help of tools and equipment that allow them to optimize their work.
