Drummond Ltd., the office of the Mayor, and the San Andres Hospital in the municipality of Chiriguana inaugurated a health center in the district of La Aurora, in the Department of Cesar. The works included building, enclosing, and providing equipment and furniture for the health center

“I am happy and very proud, because the plan we designed and agreed on with the mayors has come together just the way we imagined it. We have delivered a comfortable health care center with plenty of room that will guarantee good service. And now the challenge before us is for the director of the hospital and the Mayor to guarantee the provision of excellent medical services,” said Alfredo Araujo, Community Relations Manager at Drummond Ltd.

The works, with an investment of 1,000,624,646 pesos, put in place the right conditions for providing good healthcare in La Aurora and the surrounding areas.

“Thank you so much to the multinational Drummond. And thank you so much to the leaders who were also a part of making this project a reality,” said Carlos Caamaño, Mayor of Chiriguana, to the mining company.

The donations include medical and dentistry equipment, furniture for the waiting room and examination rooms, and an electric generator. The community in La Aurora attended the inauguration, and thanked Drummond for its “mining with a positive impact.”

“For us as a community, this is a clear demonstration of Drummond’s great affection and care. This is a reflection of what you call mining with a positive impact. With such a large investment, of course the quality of healthcare is going to improve,” commented Jaider Haldahir, legal representative of the Black Community Council in La Aurora.

Over the last three years, the mining company has invested more than 4 billion pesos in the healthcare sector. So far, it has delivered 18 health posts that were either built or rebuilt, refurbished, and equipped in benefit of 107,897 people, and it has built and/or remodeled 12 hospitals in benefit to 456,352 people.

Under the Governance for Development pillar of its corporate social responsibility strategy, Drummond will continue to work to strengthen institutions and communities by building local skills to promote greater efficiency in public administration and planning.
